Priority 2: Public Safety & Trust

This post is part one of a seven part series on the King For Mayor platform.

The next priority of my platform for Johnstown is public safety & trust.

Building a safe city starts with trust between residents and law enforcement. My goal is to strengthen that trust by creating opportunities for positive interaction and long-term commitment to our community.

Public Safety & Trust

Create incentives for officers to make law enforcement a career, not a steppingstone:
By offering professional development, recognition programs, and retention incentives, we can encourage officers to stay and grow within Johnstown—building consistent, trusted relationships with residents instead of high turnover.

Continued police presence during community events:
Regular, visible participation by officers at local events helps normalize positive engagement. It shows our officers as partners and neighbors, not just enforcers.

Recreation programs for officers to interact with teens:
Initiatives such as sports leagues, mentoring programs, or summer activities allow officers to connect with youth in a relaxed, fun setting. These experiences build mutual respect and reduce barriers before conflicts arise.

Support community connection programs:
Programs like Shop with a CopCoffee with a Cop, and Bicycle Giveaways foster goodwill and humanize the badge. These simple, meaningful gestures strengthen community ties and help children and families feel supported by local law enforcement.
