I have known Rev. Sylvia King all her life. We all grew up in the Prospect section of Johnstown. It was a different time. No one locked their doors, we knew our neighbors, and we had a real sense of community. We looked out for each other; we had those strong deep-rooted morals and respect. If a family were in need, the neighbors, our community pulled together to assist in any way we could. I knew the King family intimately as my brother was married to Rev. King’s sister. The King family was a fixture in the church. Mrs. Mattie, Rev. Sylvia’s mother, was a force not only in her church but also in her community. She motivated her children and so inspired her youngest daughter, Sylvia. So, to see Sylvia become a pastor of her own church and a community advocate seems only natural. Proverbs 22:6 in action.

First let me say, I am proud of Rev. Sylvia and all her accomplishments. She has proven to be a great leader in Johnstown. To know her is to trust that anything she says or does comes after considerable discussion and investigation. Her judgement surpasses political affiliation. I have seen her with local and state members of opposing parties, and some in service at her church and there is shared camaraderie, and mutual respect. This election for mayor is important. We are asking the city to vote for the most qualified candidate that will lay the foundation for a successful future. She has served on city council since 2017 and is currently the Deputy Mayor. Those titles do not come without the confidence of the people of Johnstown, city manager, council, and the current mayor. Her church follows the Christ-like credence by serving the poor and disadvantaged.

She has shown class, integrity, and resilience of character in her bid for mayor of Johnstown. She does not allow untruths and negativity to force her to respond in kind. Instead, she stays razor focused on what she can improve in Johnstown instead of constantly complaining about all the “wrongs” in Johnstown and failure to offer reasonable suggestions. Rev. Sylvia has a vision for Johnstown and is forward-thinking. She is what we need…NOW!

On November 4, 2025, my husband and I will proudly cast our vote for Rev. Sylvia J. King. I pray that you will also.
