Reverend Sylvia King has dedicated her life to service, faith, and community. Born and raised in the Prospect neighborhood of Johnstown and now residing in Kernville, she has spent decades working to strengthen her hometown through ministry, public service, and civic leadership.
Rev. King currently serves as Pastor of Christ Centered Community Church, Deputy Mayor of Johnstown City Council, and Community Development Officer at AmeriServ Financial Bank. This unique blend of faith leadership, government service, and financial expertise equips her with the skills to foster economic growth, build stronger neighborhoods, and ensure Johnstown remains a safe and welcoming place for all.
As a pastor, Rev. King has walked alongside families during their struggles and triumphs, gaining first-hand understanding of the challenges residents face. Her partnerships with more than 20 nonprofit organizations reflect her commitment to meeting community needs—from homelessness services to recovery programs, youth mentorship, and financial education.
On City Council, Rev. King works to strengthen local government’s connection to its residents. She has championed the formation of citizen councils across Johnstown’s 15 neighborhoods and has been a consistent advocate for stabilizing neighborhoods, lowering crime, and making the city more business-friendly.
Her community involvement runs deep, with leadership in initiatives such as the Peace March, Community Sunday School, food and clothing distributions, holiday programs, and support for recovery and re-entry services. She also volunteers with organizations including JARI, Cambria County Library, the NAACP, United Neighborhood Association, FAVOR D&A Rehab, Cambria County Jail, Vision Together, the Poverty Commission, and the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra.
Rev. King believes Johnstown’s best days are ahead. Guided by wisdom, compassion, and servant leadership, she is committed to building a thriving city where families are safe, businesses grow, and every resident has the opportunity to succeed.
