I try every day to be a positive person. I have overcome some very difficult experiences in my life, many of them negative, but each one has shaped who I am today.
When I was a child, I suffered from a severe skin condition called Seborrheic Dermatitis. I had constant flare-ups — always on my face and scalp — something I couldn’t hide. My skin would become crusty, scaly, yellowish, and flaky. It was painful and embarrassing. Dermatology has come a long way since then, but at that time, doctors didn’t really know how to treat it.
My heart broke every time I looked in the mirror. Still, I would gather the strength to go out in public despite how ugly I felt inside. I was told I might outgrow the condition — and thankfully, I did. But what stands out most from that entire experience is how the community treated me.
The people around me never bullied me, never called me names, never made me feel like I didn’t belong. They showed kindness, compassion, and grace. Truly, it was a gentler, more caring time — and that, right there, is the heart of this story.
That experience taught me something I carry with me to this day: the power of community kindness. When people choose empathy over cruelty, unity over division, we create a place where everyone has the courage to rise above their challenges.
As a leader, I hold onto that lesson. I do not want to become entangled in a negative campaign filled with cheap shots, accusations, or conspiracy theories. It takes no wisdom to spread negativity or call others corrupt. True leadership requires character, restraint, and a clear vision for the future.
Negativity is selfish. It reinforces sadness, weakens trust, and divides communities. As leaders — and those aspiring to lead — we must understand that our words shape the next generation. The way we treat one another sets the example for the kind of community our children will inherit.
I told my story for a reason. I believe I was able to overcome and heal — not only physically, but emotionally — because of the kindness I received from my community. That spirit of care and compassion is what makes Johnstown special.
Complaining, criticizing, and drama will not move us forward. That behavior keeps us in darkness, holds us back, and tears us apart. But unity, respect, and hope will light our path forward.
I believe in Johnstown. We’ve seen dark days, but together, we are walking in the light.
Together, we can keep moving forward — building on our progress, restoring trust, and ensuring Johnstown remains the shining heart of Cambria County.
My vision is focused on those who will come after us. Let’s work together and light the way to our future.
Unity + Progress = Stability
