Priority 3: Neighborhood Stabilization & Housing

This post is part one of a seven part series on the King For Mayor platform.

The next priority of my platform for Johnstown is neighborhood stabilization and housing.

Strong neighborhoods are the foundation of a healthy city. I will continue working to improve housing quality, support homeownership, and create clean, safe spaces for our families.

Neighborhood Stabilization & Housing

Secure grant funding for first-time homebuyers and rehabilitation assistance:
Many families dream of owning a home but face financial barriers. I will ensure the city aggressively pursues state and federal grants that help residents buy, repair, and maintain their homes.

Institute regular community cleanups:
Organized cleanup days promote civic pride, reduce blight, and encourage residents to take an active role in improving their blocks.

Maintain safe playgrounds:
Every child deserves a safe place to play. We’ll work with community groups to maintain and improve playgrounds so that families can enjoy clean, secure public spaces.

Apply for owner-occupied rehabilitation and Healthy Homes grants:
These programs help low- and moderate-income homeowners make critical repairs and create healthier living environments—reducing hazards like lead, mold, and unsafe conditions while strengthening neighborhood stability.
