This post is part one of a seven part series on the King For Mayor platform.

The first priority of my platform for Johnstown is poverty reduction and financial empowerment.
During my 30 year career in banking, I’ve had the privilege of working with everyone from families saving $20 a month to leaders of million-dollar corporations. I’ve seen the struggles of living paycheck to paycheck and the consequences of poor financial education.
Having once faced those same challenges, I know firsthand how oppressive the consequences can be when you have poor financial management skills. For this reason, I decided to use my years of experience to support the community and help people end harmful financial cycles. I began teaching financial literacy to churches, community groups, and incarcerated individuals to help them break free from bad credit and reach their financial goals. Through this important work, I have witnessed countless people climb out of credit card debt, save for their children’s futures, and put down payments on homes for the first time.
As mayor, I will work to increase the availability of these programs, which will help residents build lasting financial stability and break generational poverty.
Poverty Reduction & Financial Empowerment
Expanding financial education and credit repair programs so residents can build lasting stability and wealth.
Creating first-time homebuyer support and down payment assistance to help families achieve the dream of homeownership in Johnstown.
Supporting recovery and re-entry programs for justice-involved individuals to ensure they have a fair chance to rebuild their lives and contribute to our community.
